Expected Learning Outcome

  • Why children need protecting and the differences between ‘safeguarding’ and ‘child protection’
  • Consider the potential indicators associated with different forms of abuse and how to record them
  • Identify the role of key agencies in safeguarding and child protection
  • Be familiar with safeguarding and child protection policies and legislation and how to make a referral
  • Know what to do if you suspect abuse and how to escalate concerns if reporting does not produce a satisfactory response
  • Identify how to report concerns about unsafe practices of others

This workshop is aimed at professionals working with children and young people in a wide range of settings, (including teachers and youth workers) that have completed a Level 1 course. It includes raising awareness about the legislation that relates to safeguarding children, the key responsibilities of individuals within child protection and the role of social care and / or the police in the safeguarding process once a concern has been raised, as well as exploring the potential indicators of different forms of abuse and making referrals.

Additionally ALL participants will gain access to a wide range of resources, including educational materials, referral networks, and support services.
