Expected Learning Outcome

  • Have gained a greater understanding of CBT;
  • Have developed ideas about how to incorporate CBT theory and skills into their own professional or self-development practice; and
  • Be aware of the importance of reflective and anti-discriminatory practice in maintaining and developing their relationship with young people

CBT enables us to understand the relationships between our feelings, thinking, behaviours and environment, and the ways in which these can become problematic.

This course provides an introduction to using CBT techniques for youthworkers and those working predominantly with young people. It aims to give participants a basic knowledge of CBT theory and approaches and some practical tools when working with young people.

We hope that the skills and framework in this course allow participants to help others to have the confidence to move forward and make a real difference.

Learning Objectives:
To develop a greater understanding of what CBT looks like and the psychological and philosophical ideas which inform its practice.
To develop a greater understanding of and ability to use some core CBT interventions in practice
To gain in self awareness
