This interactive webinar provides an introduction to the key principles and basic concepts for a continuum of support known as Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).

PBS begins from the starting point that children and young people can learn appropriate behaviour in the same way they learn anything – through positive role models, instruction, practice, feedback, and encouragement.

Unlike more traditional forms of support that work from a deficit model, i.e. what a child of young person can’t do, PBS looks to identify existing skills and areas of strength and then develops a personal programme of to build on these.

This workshop, aimed at teachers, youth workers, social workers and anyone providing support for 11-19 year olds, will look at practical ways to take PBS back into practice through a blend of theory, discussion and groupwork to enable young people to develop the skills to better cope with the stresses and challenge of life.

  • Define what challenging behaviour is in order to recognise it.
  • Identify key triggers for challenging behaviour
  • Understand what ‘positive behaviour support’ is
  • When PSB can be useful
  • The main functions of PBS
  • Consider things that can be included in a behaviour support plan
