Self-Harm & Self-Injury

Coping without cutting

Young people who self-harm are more likely to experience mental health difficulties; including anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem.

Walk into any secondary school and you can be confident that there are young people who self-harm. Research suggests that around 1 in 10 young people will self-harm at least once. That equates to 2-3 students per classroom.

KIP Education’s self-harm & self-injury workshops help young people to reflect on their relationship with themselves; understanding self-care and healthy coping mechanisms, helping schools and youth organisations to proactively ensure the safety of their young people.

Through discussion, role-play, analysing examples, watching videos and completing activities, young people will learn about resilience, mindfulness and communication.

They will explore how the image they have of themselves often misrepresents reality and learn where to find support.

Learning Outcomes

Self-harm often indicates extreme stress, inability to cope and most certainly a “cry for help”....
