
Online Safeguarding Children & Young People Training

This Online Safeguarding course raises awareness of the risks and concerns associated with children and young people spending time online and using social media.
This includes online grooming for child sexual and criminal exploitation (CSE and CCE) and the Prevent duty schools and youth services have to reduce the risks of radicalisation.
The course considers how children and young people use the internet, the role of social media and online gaming, ways to stay safe and ideas for supporting and educating parents and carers at home.
This training consists of real-time sessions & techniques, discussion groups and opportunities to practice and network with each other.
Learning Outcomes
- Consider the safeguarding role to protect children in the digital world
- Explore how and why young people use the internet and social networking sites
- Consider the laws intended to protect children and young people online and the Prevent duty
- Identify potential risks, including different forms of online grooming for child sexual and criminal exploitation (CSE and CCE) and radicalisation
- Discuss how to set and maintain online boundaries, including the use of controls and filters
- Identify how to report concerns about unsafe practices of others
- Know where to go for information and support.
YOUR FACILITATOR
Vanessa Rogers is a nationally acclaimed youth work trainer and author with experience of managing a wide range of services for young people (11-25), including early intervention, youth offending and targeted services. She is best known for creating practice-based educational resources for youth workers and teachers, published worldwide by Jessica Kingsley Publishers.
These provide creative ways to engage young people in learning about traditionally emotive topics including relationships and sex (RSE), pornography and peer domestic abuse to develop the life skills to make healthy, positive choices.
She continues to work with young people across the UK on a commissioned basis, is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) and sits on the council for the Institute for Youth Work (IYW).
